  • James Toth- Toth's Law Volume 3 (CDr)
Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

The third in a series of 4 CDr releases of home recordings/demos by James Toth (Wooden Wand). One of the finest songwriters working today! Limited to only 50 copies, hand printed linocut artwork by Jake Blanchard.

Previously released as a download by Toth (and still available to download on his Bandcamp), this is the first time the majority of these song have had a physical release! Here's what he had to say when they were initially released-

'All songs here written, performed and recorded by JT sometime between 2005 and 2017, except #1 (see below for personnel).

    Notes on the songs:

    “Looking for A Builder”
This features Nashville pals Ryan Norris, Kyle Hamlett, Luke Schneider, and Josh Hamlett, and was recorded by Loney John Hutchins sometime in 2012. Not sure why it didn’t make the cut.

    “Faraway Faultlines”
Recorded this tune in Chicago (along with three others) for the Clipper Ship sessions, with Darin, Elkington, Kotche and Becker. Came out great but decided the studio version was a little too ‘rock’ for an album of postmodern string band music. Planning to release these ‘lost’ studio versions at some point, but for now, here’s a demo of one of the two castaways.

    “Ellwood Mesa”
    About a beautiful place.

    “It’s A Lie”
A song about the toxic mythology of rock and roll, and a condemnation of the rock demigod’s sense of entitlement.

    “The Ride”
There exists a sort-of doom metal version of this song. It is best left unheard.

    “Take A Pill”
Tried to rewrite “Girl on A Billboard,” landed somewhere south of “It’s the End of The World as We Know It.” Ah, well.

    “Hunter’s Moon”
Planned to re-record this old Vanishing Voice-era chestnut for the Clipper Ship album but didn’t. No one but me seems to like it very much.

“Day Down (One Drop at a Time)”
No memory of writing this one. Drum sample courtesy of Fleetwood Mac.

    “Too Many Bands”
With apologies to The Shadow Ring.

    “Double Dream”
Beware the ostrich tuning: it’s really easy to get carried away. I know you’ll forgive me.'
